Scandanavia Tour

Jeff Beatty, Axel Hecht, and I are on a mini-Scandinavia tour / road-trip with the goals of strengthening our localization teams there and general community building. Jeff’s first stop was Reykjavik for a MozCafe, Axel and I joined him in Copenhagen for a Scandinavia Meetup, and now we are in Gothenburg. More on those stops soon. In the meantime, watch for us in Oslo and Stockholm and spread the word to your network in and around those cities to come along. Both events are public.

Turkey Needs You

Earlier in April (4-7 April to be exact) I was in Istanbul to speak [slides] at Free Software & Linux Days at Bilgi University, the main FOSS conference in Turkey. I spoke their previously in 2010. This time I got great support from Mozilla Rep Selim Sumlu and we had a stand to show off some Firefox OS demo devices. I also had the opportunity to speak on a panel at a brief afternoon session at Bogazici University. One of the main reasons of the trip was community building, as Mozilla Turkey has been suffering in that regard.

Local Contribution Funnels and 15 Years Campaign

Last week community builders across the organisation and community got together. Please read the wiki page account of what happened. On the first day, I gave a short update on the status of our local contribution funnels. What a local contribution funnel looks like is essentially the Mozilla Contribute page localised and with the form inquiries going directly to the community. My slides are online. Some context is missing, so feel free to ask me questions. This is just one part in our approach to support community building in all Mozilla communities.

German Community Reboot

Re-imagining

What better way to start 2013 than to reboot your community. Last Saturday we met in Berlin and in attendance were 15 of us. The goal was simple. Find a new direction and structure for the community. We had folks from Switzerland, Austria, and Germany so we have an evolution from Mozilla Germany to German Speaking Mozilla. Something similar has happened to the French Speaking Mozilla Community in the last year. Mozilla Hispano is also a huge inspiration.
