Pickup Photo Uploader

BriksI’m happy to announce the release of the Pickup Photo Uploader. Pickup is a Firefox extension developed by Briks Software in association with 33eels for uploading pictures to online picture services. Currently supported services are Flickr, Marela, 23, and SmugMug.

It has been fun developing the extension, and trying out different photo sites. I am mainly a Flickr user. While other services might not provide the same quantity of features, they certainly have their value and have some other nice features. For example, 23 has something called ‘Stories’, a way of presenting albums with text in a kind of a tutorial format, or a walk-through of a particular event.

Choose Pictures: briks, marela

Pickup supports batch uploading of pictures. Other features include setting tags and titles on pictures, setting privacy, and adding to photosets. The features for a particular service really depends on what the API supports. For example, only the Flickr API supports adding to photosets.

So without further a do, I refer you over to the Pickup project page, where you can upload photos ’til your heart’s content.

Simply a great extension…We don’t have anything like tht for FF. (I don’t know Why!)

I would like to place few suggestions.

    1. Include support for sidebar.

    2. Have a tab or something like tht to view photo from a given username.

    3. Allow to drag and drop photos from web. Currently u support only for local machine.
Tjis would require some caching on clientside but tht will be a great feature.

    4. Integration or addon for Performancing for firefox . Its a no 1 wysiwyg editor for blogging. It has addon support. So if we can upload some pic to flickr or something and pu it inside the blog…nothing is as great as tht…!!

    Keep it up nice job..!!

    jigar, thanks for the feedback!

    1. Someone else asked us to do this, so we’ll definitely look into supporting Pickup in the sidebar.

    2. Possible, but perhaps outside the remit of what we want to do, which is just upload. I am not sure though, limited viewing might be valuable.

    3. Again we were asked this by someone else, and would like to support it.

    4. The Performancing author approached us already, and it would be even better if we had a general framework for integrating Pickup into any Mozilla extension/application.

Pickup has officially been removed, and has now been replaced by Fotofox.

[...] This brings us to the final point of the day: Uploading photos to 23 is very easy through the site itself. But we’ve often been asked for an uploader that works from the desktop. We wrote a while back that Mac users are spoiled in that regard with at least two very good tools (PictureSync and FlickrExport which has been updated since our last post). But there are tools for Windows and now Linux as well. The most recent is Pickup Photo Uploader, a Firefox extension which let’s you drag-n-drop some photos and then upload to 23 (and other photo sharing sites). My own test concluded that the tools works perfectly against 23, and, best of all, it ought to be platform independent. [...]
